Multi slice CT Scan

What is a CT Scanning of the Body?

CT (computed tomography), sometimes called CAT scan, uses special x-ray equipment to obtain image data from different angles around the body, and then uses computer processing of the information to show a cross-section of body tissues and organs.

We also offer the Biograph mCT - Through a perfect integration of the first advanced HD•PET platform and the world’s first Adaptive Spiral CT, Siemens has created a next generation dual modality device for a new level of integrated imaging.

Patient Benefits:

  • Increased clinical value with exceptional image quality, advanced clinical applications and the ability to adapt to virtually all patients and clinical needs
  • Excellent patient care with ultrafast 5 minute PET acquisitions, comfortable examinations and low patient doses
  • Better return on investment with reliability, upgradeability and true, shared service utilization: CT in conjunction with high definition PET or stand-alone CT

CT imaging is particularly useful because it can show several types of tissue—lung, bone, soft tissue and blood vessels—with great clarity. Using specialized equipment and expertise to create and interpret CT scans of the body, radiologists can more easily diagnose problems such as cancers, cardiovascular disease, infectious disease, trauma and musculoskeletal disorders.

The ACR recommends that patients taking Metformin be classified into one of two categories based on the patient’s renal function (as measured by GFR).

  1. Based on the ACR recommendations, patients who are taking Metformin and are non-renal compromised i.e., with normal Creatinine level, can safely take their Metformin, without any restriction before or after the contrast injection.
  2. In patients taking Metformin who are known to have acute kidney injury or severe chronic kidney disease (stage IV or stage V), the contrast will not be administered unless the patient is scheduled for dialysis the next day or within 24 hours. In which case, the Metformin should be temporarily discontinued at the time of the procedure, and be withheld for 48 hours subsequent to the procedure and re-instituted thereafter.
